Marilyn Blocker, MBA, MSM Consultant, Author, and Educator Former VP at Philips Electronics Founder and Managing Principal of Innovation Outcomes Metro-NYC Area _________________________________________________________
Marilyn has more than 20 years of internal and external consulting and senior management experience at leading organizations including Philips Electronics, John Hancock Financial Services, GTE (now Verizon Communications), The Coca-Cola Company, and Providence Health System (now Providence Health & Services). At John Hancock, Marilyn was one of the founding officers who took a start-up banking organization from the drawing board to the 12th largest VISA gold card distributor in the U.S. At Philips Electronics, she was involved in start-up and rapid growth scenarios as well as turnaround, consolidation, and organizational restructuring and redesign efforts. At Providence Health and Services (then Providence Health System), she led a 20-employee function that provided services to 3,400 employees. Actively partnering with leaders of 5 major business groups, Marilyn responded to internal client needs by radically transforming a highly transactional function into an accountability-based shared services platform with centers of excellence.
As a Vice President at the Philips Silicon Valley Center, Marilyn actively served on a shared services senior leadership team; had P & L responsibilities; and worked through an 18-employee function to reduce operating costs and institute a fee-for-service function that improved delivery systems and earned consistently high scores from internal customers on annual customer satisfaction surveys. When Philips closed the Silicon Valley Center, Marilyn restarted her consulting practice and currently provides services in innovation planning and strategy, leadership and team capability enhancement, and change management/culture transformation.
When consulting with Boards, CEOs, and other C-suite executives, Marilyn draws upon her extensive experience with organizations at all stages of the organizational life cycle (i.e., start-up, turnaround, divestiture, etc.). To date, she has coached over 200 clients in a variety of industries, including C-suite executives as well as emerging leaders and high-potential associates. Marilyn's work has been published in a textbook for the University of Wisconsin and an advertorial and white paper in BusinessWeek. Additionally, she has served on executive committees for a number of not-for-profit boards and as a Loaned Executive to the United Way.
Subsequent to completing an MBA and a Master of Science in Management (MSM) from the University of Maryland, Marilyn completed a 12-week executive development program at Cornell University, aimed at company officers, directors, and other key individuals charged with achieving and maintaining competitive advantage. She is currently a guest lecturer, graduate school advisor, and adjunct instructor at New York University, where she teaches Creativity and Innovation. She is the author of Orchestrating Sustainable Innovation: A Symphony in Sound Bytes and Orchestrating Global Innovation: Today's Grand Challenges, which are scheduled for publication in early 2015. __________________________________________________________________________________________
